Zillow settles lawsuit over StreetEasy listing fees
An agent alleged the New York City-based home search site was continuing to collect fees for rental listings that were no longer displayed.
Zillow has reached a settlement with an agent over listing fee charges on StreetEasy, a Zillow-owned home search site with rental and for-sale listings across New York City's five boroughs.
George Spyridakis, a New York real estate agent, filed a lawsuit against Zillow in February, alleging that StreetEasy was charging a daily fee for listings that were being removed from public view.
In the original complaint, Spyridakis said that StreetEasy charges $7 a day for each rental listing. In some cases, multiple agents could list the same property for rent — when that occurred, Spyridakis said Zillow's practice was to display only the most recently posted listing, masking or removing others while continuing to charge those agents the $7 fee.
On May 14, the case was dismissed in U.S. District Court Western District of Washington in Seattle with prejudice, meaning the plaintiff cannot bring it to court again. No details were provided in the filing about the terms of the settlement.
