Stefan Swanepoel — the influential strategist who has long urged the real estate industry to confront its challenges while focusing on "positive potential" — shared this week that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

In a video message released April 10, Swanepoel struck a characteristically forward-looking tone, emphasizing optimism about his prognosis and confidence in the leadership team guiding T3 Sixty, the parent company of Real Estate News (which operates independently).

"In February, I was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer," Swanepoel said.

But advances in medicine, from robotics to AI have him feeling "very optimistic for a very positive outcome."

Remaining engaged: Over the decades, Swanepoel has helped shape the industry's strategic conversation — from identifying systemic risks in The DANGER Report to reframing those same challenges through a lens of opportunity in his more recent work.

His message this week carried a similar throughline: Acknowledging a difficult reality while maintaining a focus on what comes next. Swanepoel said he does not plan to step away from the industry.

"I will still be active in many activities," he said, adding that he expects to attend the T3 Leadership Summit later this month.

A clear corporate path: While the diagnosis marks a significant personal challenge, Swanepoel made clear that the company he founded is positioned to continue without disruption.

Jack Miller took over as T3 Sixty CEO in 2022, with Swanepoel becoming executive chairman. "Together, we built up a great leadership team," Swanepoel said. "The company has and continues to be in good hands as they continue on my original vision."
