CoStar has added another component to its growing residential real estate empire with the closure of its Zonda acquisition.

The company announced on Aug. 21 that it has officially completed its $800 million acquisition of the construction-focused housing data and analytics company, giving it a foothold in the new home market.

When the deal was revealed in May, it was viewed as the company's latest effort to broaden its portfolio beyond commercial real estate, which includes LoopNet and Ten-X, and residential, which includes Apartments.com and Homes.com, among other brands.

An extensive builder marketplace: In a news release, CoStar Founder and CEO Andy Florance said the deal opens up opportunities to tap into a substantial market "with a sophisticated group of builders, developers, lenders, investors and suppliers that need purpose-built information, analytics and marketing solutions."

The closure of the acquisition will enable the integration of Zonda's data and business relationships with CoStar's technology — a combination that "can deliver significantly more value to builders, lenders and other industry participants, accelerate innovation across the homebuilding ecosystem, and create a compelling new growth platform for CoStar Group," Florance added.

Zonda has more than 3,000 customers for its construction data tools, including builders, developers, lenders and suppliers.

More consumer opportunities: In addition to providing data for the new construction industry, Zonda operates NewHomeSource and Livabl, online marketplaces where builders can market their inventory to prospective buyers. CoStar has said it plans to enhance those platforms with its Matterport technology, which it acquired in 2024.

"New residential construction is a massive market, yet the information and digital marketplace opportunities within it remain significantly underdeveloped," Florance said.

"CoStar Group has spent four decades assembling proprietary real estate information, turning that information into valuable analytics and creating online marketplaces that make property easier to discover and transact around. Zonda gives us an outstanding foundation to bring that model more deeply into the new home market."
