Key points:

  • On Nov. 4, NAR released its third quarterly update on its three-year strategic plan while reminding members of some legal and advocacy wins.
  • The association highlighted its efforts to connect with more MLS execs and brokers in Q3, including a new “MLS Work Group” and a national broker networking session.
  • NAR also said it has added fraud prevention guidance and other educational resources on cybersecurity and AI.

The National Association of Realtors released its third quarterly update on the association's 2026-2028 Strategic Plan on Wednesday, highlighting efforts across advocacy, new member resources and MLS engagement, among other initiatives.

Building on engagement, advocacy efforts

NAR's last quarterly update, released in July, highlighted its work to strengthen collaboration with MLSs, including through new policy guidance on "objective criteria" and the filtering of listings on IDX or VOW displays, as well as guidance on office exclusives, pre-marketing and establishing risk-management frameworks.

Since then, NAR said it has expanded MLS executive engagement to nearly 500 MLS leaders and created a new "MLS Work Group."

Similar to its Q2 update, NAR again promoted its work on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which was passed into law in July. The association added that since the law was enacted, it has launched an effort with state and local associations across the country to translate the federal law into local impact.

Other advocacy wins in the last quarter include building bipartisan support for the More Homes on the Market Act and credit score modernization at the FHA, NAR said.

On the legal front, NAR reminded members that federal appeals courts upheld dismissals in the Eytalis mandatory membership lawsuit and discount brokerage Homie's antitrust case alleging NAR and others conspired to steer clients away from the brokerage and its listings.

Broker and member resources

During the second half of 2026, NAR said its leadership connected with more than 5,000 brokers at state and local Broker Summits to discuss business challenges and solutions, and it is on track to participate in 80 virtual and in-person broker events by the end of the year.

NAR also established and held a national broker networking session, created the "Broker Power Track" for this week's NAR NXT for more targeted broker programming, launched the first-ever "Broker Innovation Forum" to be held at NAR NXT and delivered customizable social media assets for brokers to use in NAR's "Right by You" campaign to reinforce the value Realtors bring to their communities.

The association said it has also laid the groundwork for the launch of an updated learning platform and courses in December.

Data, tech and security

Other areas of focus in Q3 were bolstering guidance and education around emerging technology, strengthening member security and NAR's own data infrastructure, and protecting Realtors and consumers from fraud.

NAR said it participated in Ai4, currently one of the largest AI conferences, in August, and noted that it created a more consolidated and clearer member technology experience on its websites so that members can easily find resources in one place.

The association strengthened member account security through measures like upgraded identity verification and password recovery processes — updates that have also been shared with local and state associations as guidance.

In addition to expanding cybersecurity and AI-focused education, NAR launched a centralized fraud prevention hub to provide guidance on fraud prevention and reporting, and to help everyone involved in a transaction recognize the risks and warning signs of fraud.

"Each achievement in the third quarter is part of a broader, connected effort to expand housing opportunity, ensure integrity in the market and throughout the transaction, and give members the insight and support to grow their business," NAR CEO Nykia Wright said.
