Founded by Glenn Stanford with the goal of being the first large-scale cloud-based brokerage, eXp went public in 2013 and entered an exclusive deal with Virbela, a cloud-based immersive workspace provider to create a virtual real estate platform. In 2018, eXp purchased Virbela and started trading on Nasdaq.
The company had a busy year in 2020, acquiring media company Success Enterprise and search technology company Showcase IDX, and launching eXp Commercial and eXp Global. By 2022, eXp had a presence in 24 countries.
How they describe themselves
"eXp Realty is a full-service real estate brokerage providing 24/7 access to collaborative tools, training, and socialization for real estate brokers and agents through its 3-D, fully-immersive, cloud office environment." The company calls itself "the most agent-centric brokerage in the world."
What others are saying
"The big differentiator for eXp Realty is that it's completely remote — there are no physical offices for the company's real estate agents. … Despite its remote-only status, eXp still operates much like any other brokerage. Its lack of need for brick-and-mortar locations has allowed for tremendous growth, both in the United States and internationally." (UpNest)
In 2017, eXp established eXtend a Hand to provide assistance to eXp agents experiencing hardships from natural disasters, illness or other catastrophic events. The organization achieved 501(c)(3) status in 2021. In addition, eXp has partnered with the nonprofit New Story to help build homes in developing countries.
