International transactions in residential real estate
NAR's annual Profile of International Transactions in U.S. Residential Real Estate presents information about member transactions with international clients from April 2021 to March 2022. The report also provides information on U.S. clients seeking to purchase property abroad.
Highlights
Foreign buyers spent $59 billion on 96,000 residential purchases, 1.6% of the 6.06 million in existing home sales.
The top three states for foreign-buyer home purchases were Florida (24%), California (11%) and Texas (8%).
57% of the foreign buyers had lived in the U.S. for less than two years or were in the U.S. on visas.
The top foreign buyers by nationality were from Canada (11%), Mexico (8%) and China (6%).
The median purchase price for a home was $366,110, compared to $355,700 for all existing homes sold.
