Editor's note: As an industry with millions of agents and over 100,000 brokerage companies, new leaders rise to the top every day. Here we highlight executives and other notable leaders who've recently taken on, or stepped away from, roles that influence the residential real estate landscape.

New MoxiWorks exec is 'exactly the kind of leader we need'

MoxiWorks has appointed Shaun Harkley to serve as senior vice president of sales, effective Sept. 14. In his new role, Harkley will lead the company's sales teams across North America, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Harkley will join MoxiWorks' executive leadership team and report to CEO Eric Elfman, according to a news release. His focus will be on global sales execution and expanding adoption of MoxiWorks' RISE platform as the company enters its next phase of growth.

Harkley most recently worked at Rechat, where he served as head of sales, and previously held sales roles at Lone Wolf Technologies and global sales leadership positions at Resolver, a risk intelligence software firm.

Elfman described Harkley as "exactly the kind of leader we need" for MoxiWorks' next chapter. "He has spent his career building winning sales organizations in this industry, and he knows what it takes to help brokerages and agents grow," Elfman added.

Harkley's appointment comes six months after the company introduced Brendon Meyer as its new VP of strategic alliances and growth initiatives. In the past year, the firm has also added to its C-suite, appointing Ashley Fidler as chief product officer and Kim Koraca as chief marketing officer last fall.

Industry leader closes two-decade chapter at Zillow

Sara Bonert announced in a LinkedIn post this week that she is leaving Zillow after nearly 20 years with the company.

Bonert was one of Zillow's earliest employees, joining in the fall of 2006 as director of broker services and climbing the ranks in the years that followed. She most recently served as vice president of industry engagement, a position she held for over three years.

"After nearly 20 years at Zillow, there's no perfect way to write a LinkedIn post about leaving," Bonert wrote in her post, which included a video of her playing "What Was I Made For" by Billie Eilish — a song that Bonert said "feels very fitting to me right now" — on the piano.

"So instead of trying to find the perfect words, I decided to play the song that feels perfect for this moment," her post continued. It was met with a wave of messages from well-wishers, who congratulated Bonert on her nearly two decades at the company.

Bonert's departure follows several recent leadership and staffing changes at the search giant. Earlier this month, Zillow appointed CFO Jeremy Hoffman to also serve as chief operating officer, replacing longtime Zillow leader Jun Choo. The company also named Cassandra "Sandi" Knight as the company's first chief legal and policy officer and announced two other leadership promotions (Katie Berroth became SVP of strategy and operations, and Eric Wilson became SVP and general manager of mortgages).

The executive updates followed an announcement on Aug. 4 that the company was laying off over 500 employees, a move that CEO Jeremy Wacksman said would help "ensure we are organized to continue winning into the future."
